How to see who doesn't follow you back on Instagram

"Not following back" means you follow someone, but they don't follow you. Hunting for those accounts by hand across hundreds of follows takes forever. Here's how to get the full list in a couple of minutes.

Option 1: by hand (if you follow only a few accounts)

On Instagram, open someone's profile → "Following" and search for your username. If you're not there, they don't follow you back. Fine for a dozen accounts. For 300+, it's hours of tapping.

Option 2: with your data export, in two minutes

  1. Request your "Followers and following" export — here's how.
  2. Upload the ZIP to unfollowig.app.
  3. Open the "Don't follow back" tab.

The list is sorted by when you followed each account, newest first. Every username is a link that opens the profile on Instagram.

How to go through the list without regrets

Not everyone on this list is a "traitor". Usually you'll find:

  • Celebrities, brands, and media — they were never going to follow you back.
  • People who used to follow you and left.
  • Inactive and deleted accounts.

That's what marks are for in unfollowig: tag accounts you follow for their content with ★ Keep, and the ones you've already unfollowed with ✓ Unfollowed. Turn on "Hide marked" and the list becomes a checklist that's saved between visits.

The reverse: people who follow you, but you don't follow them

The "You don't follow" tab shows your fans. Handy for spotting friends you forgot to follow back.

Don't unfollow everyone at once

If you're cleaning up your following list, do it gradually — a few dozen a day. Instagram can treat a burst of actions as bot behaviour and temporarily restrict your account. More in our guide on how to clean up your following list safely.

FAQ

What's the difference between "doesn't follow back" and "unfollowed"?

"Doesn't follow back" means they don't follow you right now — they may never have. "Unfollowed" means they used to follow you and left. For that, you need two exports from different dates.

The list shows someone who does follow me. Why?

Most likely your export wasn't set to "All time", or they followed you after the export was created.
