How to mass unfollow on Instagram without getting blocked
You're following a thousand accounts and your feed is full of stuff you don't care about. A cleanup is a great idea — just don't let it turn into an account restriction.
Why you should skip "mass unfollow" apps
Apps that "unfollow everyone in one tap" fire off hundreds of actions in minutes and usually want your password. Instagram watches for spikes like that and responds with restrictions: "Action Blocked", a temporary ban on following and unfollowing, and stricter measures for repeat offenders. Instagram doesn't publish its exact limits, and it changes them.
A safe plan
- Get your list. Upload your export to unfollowig and open "Don't follow back" — usually the best candidates for unfollowing.
- Mark who to keep. Celebrities, brands, and creators you follow for their content — ★ Keep.
- Unfollow in batches. A few dozen a day, with breaks. New accounts, or accounts that were recently restricted, should go even slower.
- Track your progress. Mark each one ✓ Unfollowed and turn on "Hide marked" — you'll always see how many are left. Marks are saved between visits.
Who to unfollow first
- Inactive accounts — last post a year ago or longer.
- People who don't follow you back, if you followed them expecting a follow back.
- Shops and giveaway accounts you followed to enter a contest.
- Accounts whose posts you scroll past without looking.
Already got "Action Blocked"?
Stop for 24–48 hours and don't keep retrying. Revoke access for any suspicious apps in your settings ("Apps and websites"), and change your password if you ever entered it into a third-party service.
FAQ
How many people can I unfollow per day?
Instagram doesn't publish exact limits. The safest approach is a few dozen a day with breaks — not hundreds in a row.
Will people know I unfollowed them?
There's no notification, but they might notice on their own. See our article on unfollow notifications.
