How to tell if someone blocked you on Instagram
Instagram doesn't tell you when you've been blocked, and there's no list of who blocked you. But there are reliable signs.
Signs you've been blocked
- Their profile doesn't show up in search, even though you know the exact username.
- Opening a direct link shows "User not found", or an empty profile with "0 posts".
- Your old DMs are still there, but their profile picture is gone and you can't open their profile from the chat.
- Your likes and comments on their posts have disappeared.
- They vanished from both your followers and your following at the same time — blocking automatically removes the follow in both directions.
How to tell a block from a deleted account
Open their profile link while logged out (in a private/incognito window), or ask a friend to check. If the profile loads, you've been blocked. If it says "Page isn't available" for your friend too, the account was deleted, deactivated, or renamed.
What your data export can show
Your Instagram export only contains your own block list — the people you blocked. There's no "who blocked me" list anywhere, and services that promise one are misleading you.
Comparing two exports can still help: if someone disappeared from both your followers and your following at the same time, and their profile loads in incognito, it's almost certainly a block. In unfollowig, those people will show up in the "Unfollowed" tab.
FAQ
Is there an app that shows who blocked me?
No. Instagram doesn't share that information with you or with any third-party service. Anything promising to "see who blocked you" is a gimmick.
Will someone know if I block them?
There's no notification, but they might figure it out from the signs in this article.
